This was a good week people!
Well many of you are probably aware that the mission is on fire again... Plus Thousand Oaks had a wild shooting and my favourite buddy Logan Campbell was there!!!! He dipped out a smashed window. Anyway I'm safe in SLO.
This week Elder Pilling gets cold, has zone Conference, enjoys lessons, and also gets hooked with a free sandwich.
OK I started writing this about a year ago and I keep getting distracted. I'm currently in Morro Bay with a nice view of the ocean:) Pretty pretty. But seriously I have a major attention disorder, it's getting worse. I've decided I'm like a dog in a squirrel park. So if anyone has some suggestions how to be focused for more than 20 seconds lemme know.
Monday was good. W e had to cut Pday short because we went to the temple but every Monday we have dinner with this part member family, the James'. They are pretty cool, he was in prison a few times. I learned how they do prison tats...that was neat. Overall he is changing his life in a very cool way. He doesn't want to commit to anything because he has committed to a lot of things that were negative in the past but he's building up faith!
We had a lesson planned with Shaun and Karissa (the cool fam we found knocking) but he got a new job and was working a double shift... Testing my patience. But we had a great lesson with Wendy, the very Liberal Unitarian Universalist. We brought a total people person friend and they just clicked, but we helped her see her true desire to find God. She wants it! Definitely a process a process though.
We had a lesson with Junior on Thursday and we talked about priesthood and auxiliaries in the church, he thought it was the most interesting lesson yet, could be because I drew out the priesthood on a napkin... He has it hanging in his room:)
Then we also met with him on Saturday but also with his monolingual Spanish mom and the Hermanas. We taught, the Hermanas translated, and we talked about temples! They want an eternal family!!! We committed junior to go to the LA temple Jan 8 and we asked if Veronica would prepare herself for that temple day as well, meaning she would need to get baptized first, and she got all stressed out. She doesn't think she knows enough.... We will get there though.
Anyway Saturday was definitely the best day of the week. We taught our now 90 Yr old friend Laverne about God and His love for us. She was kinda confused since Cali is on fire... Again. Anyway we then taught Bubba about the restoration and Joseph Smith. He really needs this for his relationship with his wife. His wife is also named Wendy but she is a bit too open minded haha. We went from Bubba straight to Wendy again and we taught the restoration and a bit of the Plan of Salvation. She has great questions and she's getting close, but she has this huge brick wall because of her career and family history... She can do it!! Bombed from her to dinner and then some follow up and then Junior. So good day, good lessons, good spirit.
We had zone conference and urgency was taught again. The Lord is hastening his work! We are getting an adjusted missionary schedule from the brethren on Friday so we are all excited. Sister Nakken also reminded us of this quote from President Nelson, "What's in a word? Everything!" and that's so true. Everything we say has an effect and you can do so much with words. There is power in words. We have to teach simply with power. Choose your words carefully.
Anyway good things are rolling. It gets "cold" at night but I clearly can't complain. Have a wonderful week and yah
