Hello all you people of the earth! This week Elder Pilling starts his 4th transfer, rides daisy proudly, goes very fast in a car, and gets rained on a lot.
So to start, umbrellas are the stupidest thing on the earth today. They do NOT keep you dry. They cover your face and that's about it, unless I can't use an umbrella right...who knows. But really my legs were soaked, my jacket was soaked and I was chapped. So it rained a couple days, maybe 3? I don't remember. And I'm sure Elder England Pilling is just laughing right now...
So last week's email was pathetic. No need to beat around the bush on that one. This week's is going to be much much better.
So apart of reaching the mission goal of 20 lessons a week, we teach members the discussions. It's an excellent opportunity to connect with the members, bring the spirit into their homes, and get them thinking about WHO they know could benefit from Christ's message. One family we teach is the Ellgens. They are super super awesome. Moved in right when I got to the area. They are from Oregon and he is a berry specialist. Idk, he works with blackberries, strawberries and raspberries. It's interesting talking about it but basically he like modifies the berries to look and taste better... all natural hahahaha psych. Anyway it's really cool to teach them. It's like a longer more serious dinner message but it's great. We get to bring souls closer to Christ. There is a lot in this gospel we need to be working on and improving on. In Elder Holland's talk "Be ye Therefore Perfect-Eventually" he talks about how we aren't just going to become perfect. We need to constantly be improving but it's certainly not going to come at once. And one way we can improve is by learning more, reviewing more, having the spirit testify more to us about the truthfulness of this gospel. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense however it is true and important. Look for opportunities to learn more! 3 hours of Church is not enough. Even with seminary in there, it's not really enough...there is lots of time in a day where you can listen to a spiritual message and be driving, or what have you. Now that I'm thinking about how much time is in a day, yalls don't have that much time haha I forgot that you don't get the privilege of having every second of every day to serving the Lord. But still there's enough time...
Let's move on shall we? Ok! Wahoo so what's next? Oh yo yo yo I just remembered a little interaction we had this week with Doug! Doug (I wont share his last name but it's a colour) is a less active member in our ward. Doug is African American, 40 years old, manager of a restaurant, and an MMA, fighter. He is super cool. So we were walking to a visit with Crystal when Doug waves us down. We had an amazing discussion! He shared with us all his beliefs in about 30 minutes. He talked about the pre-earth life, our purpose on earth, death, choices, a whole ton of stuff. He was actually quite insightful. "The only power Satan has is the power we give him!" -Doug. Think about that, it's up to us to make sure he doesn't get that power. We need to put up our defence system. Put up our shield of testimony built from scripture study, prayer, church attendance, and personal studies. We need to fortify ourselves so Satan has no power over us. Doug was very very very energetic. Picture a Baptist preacher and that's Doug... Any WHO he then shared a cool experience with us which I call "by Divine design". So a few weeks ago we were walking past this park. And this guy yells from the basketball court, "Hey Mormons, come ball with us!" 3 guys were balling and so we played a quick match with them. It was Doug and his 2 buds. We didn't know it was Doug until we talked to him this past week because he shared with us how we influenced his life. The night before balling Doug had an MMA fight. It was with this 26 yr old kid who did a cheap shot to try and win (Doug won) Doug was mad about this so after the fight he went up to the bud and almost fought him. He realized he could go to jail if he did that so he just walked off. The next day we ball with him. He remembers the message of Christ and the night we balled he found the guy and apologized for his behaviour and then prayed to seek forgiveness. He told this way better than I did but it was cool because our contact with him influenced his actions. He also told us that no matter how much rejection we get, we still leave some positive something with the people we talk to. Pretty neat.
Ok so an update on daisy. I now have a handlebar bag. It fits 5 book of Mormons and is waterproof. It's very slick but looks extremely sissy, although daisy herself isn't the greatest looking bike with her pink skull stickers...lol
The fast car part of the week. So brother Parrish, my ward mission leader, has an X5M and we go rippen to church and visits etc. But yesterday he showed us the "launch control" so he warms up the car and then stomps on the brake, stomps on the accelerator and the car counts down from 3 and we launched that sucker! Holy we were rippennnnnnnnn couldn't get my head from off the seat! We all laughed and then railed some corners on the way to our house and raced our bishop in his Honda Accord sport. It was hilarious🐵
Ummmmmmmmm what else? Of course you don't know because I'm the gene who knows what's going on.
Our district got 3 new members and it is the greatest district ever. Everyone is really good and seeing miracles! I'm bored of writing this, not that you are boring it's just that I am done. And this email seems long enough for yalls. Really think about how you can improve your relationship with this gospel. AKA your testimony. Think of it like an escalator where you are walking up the escalator that is going down. If you stop walking up, you will get brought down the escalator. Don't ever be idol!
Also my ward mission leader's licence plate is "F85 MLC" a prize goes to who guesses the MLC
Lots of love to you people. Enjoy your long and dreary winter!
Elder Joseph
