Hello all you other people who are not living the word of wisdom. Jk I just clicked the recommended sentence thing that comes up on my phone and that's what it wrote. Although if you aren't keeping it, I advise you to follow it. Just a recommendation, oh and it's also a commandment from God...
This week Elder Pilling finds a new bike! Has zone conference, eats more oranges, and gets sad because it's freezing here!
Seriously tho, it's the coldest it's ever been, consistently. Sweater weather all week. It's funny for the locals because they are wearing jackets that are huge! Toques and gloves. It's hilarious!!! Makes it hard to talk to people because nobody is outside:-/
Zone conference this past Tuesday! And it was amazing!!! Although I definitely have like ADD or something because I cannot focus for very long... I do my best. Anyway here are some of the things I took from it that can apply to all.
1. Sunshine policy. Always be positive!! We literally have the gift and constant companionship of the Holy Ghost which is a great thing that helps us feel joy. I've thought a lot about this this week and who I am as a missionary. And I can't tell. I'm usually positive but I've been debating whether I'm "Joe" or "Elder Pilling". I've talked to a lot of my missionary leaders and companions and what not and they all say I'm very serious and focused...they tell me to "slacken the reigns" on everything and that a mission is supposed to be fun. But there is a time to have fun. P-day is the big one, and during time where we aren't proselyting (even tho you still need time to prepare). "Time is one of the most precious resources Heavenly Farther has given you. The period when you are able to serve the Lord with all your time and all your efforts is extremely short. Use it fully and wisely. Such an opportunity is a privilege." Missionary handbook of 13. That's what I think. Anyway i got distracted.
2. Another thing is something President Nakken said, "Don't confuse activity for profit." Just because you are "busy" doesn't mean that you are hastening the work. He talked about businesses that are super busy but they go out of business because they weren't focused on progressing. Here's an interesting quote that was shared, "The world will step aside for people who know what they want." Just think about that. A whole bunch of other missionary things were said but not very applicable here.
Ok ok so the bike I got!! It was at the dumpster here in our complex. It's a beaut! Pink rims, suspension seat, massive bars, back pedal braking. She had flat tires (which surprisingly hold air) and a rusty chain but other than that, gold. It's a joy to ride!!! I'll put a pic on here.
Cool experience following the spirit, we were out and about on Majestic Street. We were walking to an appointment and we came across a guy sitting in his car. Without hesitation I try getting his attention. Extremely awkward talking to someone chilling in their car btw. Anyway he opens the door and we start talking. He tells us he's not religious and has never been before. But he's been prepared and shares with us that he's been taking interest in Christian religions and has been reading the bible. We gave him the Book of Mormon and shared our testimonies and he wants to meet with us! Very cool how we are qualified for the work of the Lord because I never could see myself doing that before the mission, but I do it whenever I get the chance now it's truly amazing.
We have been advised not to take dinner anytime after 6 so we can be in prime proselyting time from 6-9. Sadly we've lost some dinner because of this but it's been worth it! We have met some really really cool people! Finding is seriously fun to me! The joy you feel when you get to share your beliefs and testimony is amazing=》
I truly do love the bike though.
Elder Joseph aka Joe or Joseph or Gene or well I have a lot of titles. Anyway it's been good to reflect briefly on the week.
Love you all! Or there is a good chance I do anyway. I appreciate the support. Now quit reading this and go share the Gospel to a friend;)
Elder Joseph
